I like this question.
My initial reaction was to respond in the negative. Further contemplation leads me to answer with a yes. The key is in his refusal. To refuse something demands that you take a firm stance to the contrary of some position. So, it's just as stubborn as it would be in a situation with other people, I think.
Also, refusing implies an outside force that is prompting him to move in the first place, and I don't know what that might be, but that's only tangental to the question, in my opinion.
